Soft Tissue Grafting
Gum Grafts
Gum grafts, or soft tissue grafting, are a highly effective treatment for gum recession. It involves the transplantation of gum tissue to cover exposed root surfaces, providing protection and restoring aesthetics.
Moreover, they serve as a crucial procedure in reinforcing and fortifying the gingival band surrounding the tooth, promoting overall periodontal health and stability.
There are three graft types that might be used:
1. Skin graft from the patient’s own tissue
2. Skin graft from a donor
3. Synthetic skin graft

The Gum Graft Procedure
Tissue grafting can be done to address receding gums which helps prevent bone loss and can jeopardize the root surface of the teeth. At the same time, grafting can improve the appearance of your smile.
Gum tissue can be taken from other areas of the mouth or from a donor or synthetic tissue, then placed in the area of recession. The area is then sutured and given time to heal.
After healing, your gums will be returned to a healthy level that protects the underlying areas and results in a more aesthetically pleasing smile.
