Revolutionary Dental Visualization
3D imaging and dental imaging in periodontics are accomplished using a specialized imaging device known as a cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) machine. A CBCT uses a rotating cone-shaped X-ray beam to create a 3D image of the inner anatomy of a patient’s head and face.
Dr. Bonomo will typically recommend CBCT scans in situations where more diagnostic information is needed than a standard dental X-ray can provide. CBCT scans help give a more complete dental visualization for a more informed diagnosis.
CBCT scans allow Dr. Bonomo to visualize your bone structure, tooth position, soft tissue, and nerve pathways in detail. Because of the level of diagnostic imaging and detail provided, CBCT scans have numerous clinical applications.
Cone Beam Computed Tomography applications include:
- TMJ and skeletal evaluations
- Dental implant planning
- Airway examination
- Assessment of abnormal teeth
- Measurement of dental tumors
Dr. Bonomo uses some of the most advanced dental imaging technology available. To capture a CBCT scan, a scanning arm rotates around the patient’s head and captures several exposures that are reconstructed into a single 3D image. The process typically takes a minute or less to complete.
Once the CBCT scan is completed, the images are processed and analyzed. Dr. Bonomo will use the information gained to plan the best course of care for you.
